Submit? You talking to me?
We are fortunate this week to have a team from the North American Mission Board helping us to learn where the churches of Eastern North Carolina are in terms of readiness for a genuine movement of God. So far the work has been extremely helpful in helping us pinpoint where we can be most helpful to the churches.
The very first observation that I am realizing more clearly than ever before is an issue that I struggle with in my own life. That is the issue of submission. Just who am I going to allow to come into my life and to what extent will I acknowledge that I need their help? None of you may struggle with this as I do but I have a hard time convincing myself that I do not already have all the answers and that I can see things as clearly as I need to without your help, thank you very much. The, fortunately God helps me past that, and I start to see just how much more God can use me if I will approach life with a submissive attitude.
Having been a pastor for 30 years, I know how easy it is to dismiss the need to submit to my fellow pastors. We are learning in the process of these interviews just where the level of submitting to the greater Kingdom goals lie.
It is clearer to me than ever before, if we are going to truly impact Eastern North Carolina, one of the priority transitions will have to be the way that pastor's relate to each other and are willing to step off the single pedestal of their own congregation and join themselves as part of a team that is submitted to the Lordship of Christ. I'm working on that myself so if you will pray for me, I will pray for you that together we will heed the word,"submit yourselves one to the other" which strangely enough comes right on the heels of "but keep on being filled with the Spirit".
